I found this old photograph on Pinterest. I have no idea when it was taken. Could this be Tsessebe boys in the Friedenheim dining room?
If anyone has info, please let me know.

This photo was given to Mr Jarvis by Mr Jackson
I found the following two photographs. I've never seen these before. Circa 1936
The Treaty to end the Second Anglo Boer War was officially signed at Melrose House, Pretoria on 31 May 1902. It was called the Treaty of Vereeniging (commonly referred to as the "Peace of Vereeniging".
It is believed that the initial talks that led to the Treaty of Vereeniging were held at the Friedenheim homestead, not at the home of Sir Julius Jeppe (Friedenheim) but in the 'summerhouse'.
You won't believe this, the building still exists. You have most probably walked past it a million times.
I found the info for this post in the Publication:
Jeppe Schools & Quondam History 1890 - 2015
(The information about the Treaty of Vereeniging was from the National Archives, UK)
Remember this photo of the Friedenheim homestead?
Could the little house on the hill (right side of photo) be the "summerhouse"?
Born on 6 August 1911 in Boksburg
Matriculated - Jeppe Boys in 1929
Died 2 September 2014 in Hillbrow
Nickname "Mobil" - He used Vaseline to slick down his hair
(Might be why we are finding so many vintage Vaseline jars on the Folly and next to the Field)
He loved cricket so much, he repeated Matric to play some more!
Have you noticed this painting hanging on the wall next to
Ms de Wet's classroom door?

We share a Birthday! Jean Meintjes born 6 August 1971
50 not out!
Frank and Emmanuelle saved these little gems for me. Found under the stands on White Field.
During this past extended holiday a ditch was dug to lay a pipe - behind the rugby stands (White Field) next to the Hockey Astro. Many treasures were uncovered including a strange unidentified object.
See my pics below
The Unidentified Object found
No one knew what this object was. There were attempts at guessing:
Possibilities:
Mr Jarvis - The end of an old curtain rail
Ms Birkett - The top of an old fire extinguisher
Mr Meintjes - The inside of an old wall socket
The winners for correctly identifying the object
Mr Matthews Shange
Mr Theo Garrun
It is in fact
a component of an old PRIMUS STOVE
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Primus stove, the first pressurized-burner kerosene (paraffin) stove, was developed in 1892 by Frans Wilhelm Lindqvist, a factory mechanic in Stockholm.
I tried to find out how old this component is, found this info,

So, who has almost hit a jogger when driving to Jeppe Boys past the Scottish Horse Memorial? ME, almost every morning! Those harrowing steps have become the newest morning training hotspot in Johannesburg.
The Scottish Horse Memorial
"This is one of Johannesburg’s earliest war memorials, overlooking the site of one of the largest remount camps of the Anglo-Boer War, 1899-1902. Originally a memorial to the Scottish Horse which was later disbanded, that regiment was antecedent to the famous Transvaal Scottish Regiment formed in 1902, which saw service in both World Wars. It contributes to a sense of multi-cultural heritage."

Did you know that this memorial has a twin?
(Sounds like the movie National Treasure where there are twins desks, one in England and one in the USA)
Well in this story the twin (Memorial) is in a very special place, Scotland.
I found this snippet from "The Heritage Portal"
"This memorial was erected in 1905 and is the same as that erected on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.
The only original difference between the two being that the hollow metal die replaced the solid granite die of the Scottish memorial to facilitate transport to and erection in South Africa."
AND
Theirs is nicer, ours was vandalised and the bronze plate stolen in 1961.
Good news! Looks like there are plans to restore the Memorial to it's former glory.

This photo was sent to me by my cousin Clare MacDonald - Thanks Clare!
This is when the tram lines were put into Kensington. Photo taken from near Cole Street, Robert's Avenue. Scottish Horse Memorial on the right. Jeppe Boys would also be built on the right. Clare is not sure when the photo was taken. It must be pre-1909 because Jeppe Boys was built in 1909.
