Found on the Folly - 9 May 2021 - Vaseline Jar circa 1950's

I found this little jar on the folly this afternoon, it still had it's lid but it's almost completely rusted away.  There are remnants of a label.

NEW YORK

This is another bottle from New York.

I did some research, according to one website,

Mr Robert Augustus Chesebrough was a chemist that lived in New Jersey.  He walked to work and the passed a construction site every morning.  He noticed that the workers applied rod wax to their injuries and they told him that it healed their wounds faster.  He then invented petroleum jelly.

Vaseline was patented in 1872.  According to the website he named it Vaseline because when he originally filled the glass bottles himself and if there was some left, he stored it in his wife's flower vases.
